Americans, work too many hours.
Problem 1: The US federal govt. does not mandate any maximum length of work week.
Meanwhile, Americans work 137 more hours per year than Japanese workers, 260 more hours per year than British workers, and 499 more hours per year than French workers.”
The work week should be 32-36 hours maximum.
Problem 2: The US has no mandated annual or paid parental leave.
Most industrialized countries mandate 4 to 6 weeks of paid vacation, with holidays still added; as well as most
having 12-20 weeks of paid parental leave.
Reducing individual work hours or adding required vacation would require more employees! Giving 4-8 more hours off per week will help families and likely increase exercise / reduce obesity.
Such change can be phased in over a period of time.
