The FAA is attempting to implement the provisions of Section 333 of the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 to establish regulations for the commercial usage of unmanned aerial vehicles. The increasing popularity of consumer drones has opened the doors to a multitude of commercial services.
No policies exist for a business to operate drones or obtain certification other than to file for an exemption. Establishing a clear process for businesses to obtain sUAV certification is critical for innovation to thrive in this new frontier.
Commercial use of low flying sUAVs presents many unique advantages and opportunities to improve lives and create jobs. For these reasons we call on Washington to expedite the certification process for the commercial usage of sUAVs in class G airspace.
