Whereas, Patriots' Day celebrates the beginning of America's battle for independence from oppressive foreign rule, and
Whereas, no other national public holiday specifically celebrates the desire within the American people to stand up against oppression in defense of their freedom, and
Whereas, only three states currently recognize Patriots' Day as a civic holiday, and
Whereas, the events of this past Patriots' Day once again show the power of a free and united peoples to stand firm against evil, therefore
We petition President Obama to establish Patriots' Day as a national public holiday, to be celebrated annually on the third Monday of April, beginning April 21, 2014.
