From 1919 until 1954, the United States celebrated Armistice Day, a holiday marking the end of World War I, as a national holiday dedicated to peace and an end to armed conflicts. For 60 years now, the United States has had numerous holidays dedicated to war and those who served in war, but has had no holiday specifically to celebrate peace.
To fix this oversight, we ask that the President proclaim Monday, August 11th, 2014 (the Monday closest to the anniversary of the end of World War II) a national holiday known as "Peace Day," and that the Congress pass the appropriate legislation to make the celebration an annual one on the second Monday of August.
