Establish a permanent colony on the moon for scientific research.

As a species our future is in Outer space. Establishing a permanent base on the moon will be an important first step for humans expansion into the universe. With such a facility we can explore low gravity and other effects of living in space on the human body. We can also study the effects on other life forms from earth. Such a facility on the moon would also allow us to fuel and launch missions to explore the rest of our solar system and the galaxy. Further research can also be conducted to help advance our technology to make exploration beyond our own solar system feasible. Ultimately the goal being to get us advanced enough to explore our own galaxy with ease. If we are going to last as a species we at least need to one day leave our own solar system.
