A tax on political ads would both reduce the corruption caused by lobbying groups and help reduce the national debt.
In the 2012 elections, billions of dollars were spent on political ads nationwide. The majority of this money came from large corporations and political action committees. These groups can use the power of these ads to leverage the way the politicians perform their duties. Adding a tax to these ads, while not removing the problem, would decrease the amount that these groups can lobby a politician.
While there is much debate on what the right measures are to lower the national debt, virtually every citizen would like this debt to be lower. At the same time, virtually every citizen would like to decrease the corruption that is present in several areas of government.
