Law Enforcement Officers (LEOs) should be subject to regular random drug and alcohol testing, the results of which will be available publicly through a Freedom of Information request. All LEOs who are alleged to have participated in abuse of civilians leading to injury or death should be subject to immediate drug and alcohol testing, the results of which will immediately become part of the public record.
The precedent is set for those who are responsible for the the safety of the public to be kept accountable through the use of drug and alcohol tests. Airline pilots, train conductors, and others must submit to random testing; including following an accident. All LEOs, of any rank, having sworn to "serve and protect" the public, must be held to a similar standard of regular testing.
