Establish robust open access regulations for internet service providers, to ensure competition and protect consumers.

Created by M.K. on September 22, 2011

We need the Federal Government to establish and enforce comprehensive and robust open access regulations for wire-line and wireless internet service providers. Both industries are natural monopolies, and consumers end up having fewer options as corporations consolidate telecommunications resources (e.g., the at&t/T-Mobile merger).

The internet has been a tremendous boon for free speech by leveling the playing field and establishing a fundamentally democratic global forum. In recent years we have begun to see internet service providers engage in various forms data blocking, discrimination, and prioritization. The internet is being censored. It is essential that we maintain an open forum so that the voices of average citizens don't get drowned out by corporate interests.
