The Postal Service is running in red ink. While Internet messaging is increasing, first class mail volumes are declining. Most of the material delivered by the Post Office is sent at second class or lower rates. Rather than disbanding the Post Office or turning it over to the private sector, which would only serve a subset of the current service area, substantial cost savings could be realized by setting up 3-day-a-week delivery routes, either Mon, Wed, Fri or Tue, Thu, Sat. This would reduce the need for carriers by half, and therefore substantially reduce personal costs with little impact to service quality.
It would mean nothing to me, if all those ads arrived a day later.
