Our world is facing climate change, ocean acidification, and an undermining of family values and work ethic through poverty and welfare without dignity and hope. This could be transformed through adapting the successful international Green Belt movement to American single mothers. They could earn some of their welfare assistance in city/federal grants, spending some of the day in tree planting, care, and horticulture, part in early childhood family/parenting education, and some in reading, writing, math, and science for job preparation. A partnership between cities, federal gov., departments of natural resources, and Americorps could offer dignified service and hope to single mothers and their children to beautify urban blight and stave off climate change, while transforming their lives.
