The working holiday visa is a popular visa for young adults in many countries; however, there is no working holiday visa in the USA — and many countries do not allow US citizens to apply for working holiday visas abroad.
The working holiday visa started as a kind of exchange program between the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. It allows young adults to experience life in a different country without signing up for an expensive year abroad through school or having to qualify for skilled worker sponsorship through an employer.
Though finding a job is allowed and encouraged, different countries may impose limits on what jobs may be accepted. A traveler also must show that he or she has funds to get by before the working holiday visa is granted.
