Given rising tuition and student debt, the government needs to evaluate why the state sponsored schools are on average spending more on student athletes than non-athlete students. The government also needs to evaluate if the expense spent on athletics are actually beneficial to the schools. They should consider the recent academic studies on the subject. Several reforms can and need to be put in place. Example: letting state funded schools force students to pay an athletic fee in their mandatory program services fee is a waste of some students money. Students should be allowed to decide where they want their program service fee to go depending on what services they actually use.
