George W. Bush sponsored China's admission into the World Trade Organization back in 2001, bringing cheap Chinese goods into the US and destroying millions of jobs. It was foolish, and served to enrich a few corporations at the expense of millions of American jobs and livelihoods.
When the US allows importation of goods from low-wage countries, where there are no environmental protections or worker rights, we can not possibly compete. All we see are lost jobs, and all we hear from our politicians (R) is that we need to eliminate the EPA and eradicate worker rights (unions, for example). All this, just so we can compete. So we end up destroying our environment and our quality of living. We need to go back and evaluate each free trade agreement, and eliminate those that were mistakes.
