Evaluate marijuana and alcohol using comparable, equivalent scientific investigations and regulate accordingly .

Created by A.C. on November 02, 2011

Alcohol is a legal recreational drug used by many Americans. It is available and advertised to persons of all ages. Prohibition was not effective in reducing consumption and resulted in an illegal supply chain that supported organized crime. The US Government regulates alcohol with full knowledge of the negative impact of this drug on society and scientific evidence of its harmful nature. Marijuana is a recreational drug that is also used by many Americans. Marijuana prohibition has created similar problems to alcohol prohibition, yet marijuana remains illegal. If policy is based on scientific inquiry, then uniform and reproducible methods must be used to compare both drugs. Americans can use this information to influence policymakers in creating responsible legislation.
