EVALUATE, REVIEW, AND LIMIT THE GOVERNMENT'S CURRENT RIGHT TO EMINENT DOMAIN

Many local governments have abused the power of eminent domain. The Constitution describes the intent of eminent domain to be for "public use." Many local leaders have, instead, stretched the idea of "public use" to include using the property to include deals with private developers or companies. Indeed, many politicians have done this for the sake of campaign contributions or incentives to further their money-making capabilities. Private property rights, agriculture, and the environment need to be accounted for in all government decisions on eminent domain.
