Exec. order to CDC to study preventing firearms deaths & injuries, w/ discretionary funding if needed.

Created by K.R. on December 24, 2012

Congress, starting in 1997, directed the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to cease funding any medical study on preventing deaths and injuries from firearms (the NRA promoted this legislation). Since then, the CDC has been prevented from studying accidents and deaths by firearms. This ban is illogical and harmful, given the huge number of deaths by firearms in the U.S. each year. They study traffic accidents, accidents involving knives, accidents involving children, accidents involving everything except guns. This is wrong and should be changed. The National Center for Injury Prevention and Control at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) should be directed to study firearms deaths & injuries immediately.
