Prior to the enactment and subsequent repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," many thousands of men and women were discharged from the armed services under an "other than honorable" status simply for being homosexual.
Veterans branded with an OTH discharge are denied accrued benefits and are unable to pursue civilian employment in many fields, including law enforcement, based on the type of discharge they were given. It was not necessary to have actually engaged in homosexual activity; it was only necessary to be branded "homosexual" in order for the military to impose this life-changing type of discharge. In many cases, promises were made and broken that the military would "go easy" on those who assisted in investigations.
It is time to correct this inequity through Executive Action.
