Though February was chosen as Black History Month to honor its founder, Dr. Carter G. Woodson, and the birthday's of Frederick Douglass and President Abraham Lincoln, African Americans feel the sting of racial discrimination and pushed to the corners of society with America only honoring certain parts of their history and contributions during the shortest month of the year.
We are petitioning the White House to finally honor African-American history correctly by moving Black History Month to the month of July for two reasons: first, July is when we celebrate the founding of America. This would not have been possible without the shedding of African-American blood, especially Crispus Attucks, the first to die for the cause. Second, it gives the opportunity to celebrate outdoors.
