The Presidents Race is a beloved fourth-inning tradition at all Washington Nationals home games. However, the race has never included a living president or former President. What lesson does that teach? That history is dead, not living and ever-evolving with the times? That only a select few leaders are good enough to race around the warning track, performing comic shenanigans along the way?
It's time to issue an Executive Order demanding that the Nationals build a replica of President Barack Obama and include him in the Presidents Race for the remainder of the 2016 season. In addition, the team, in future seasons, should always include the sitting president in the race, as a reminder that all leaders are in constant conversation and deliberation with those who came before.
