As mandated by the Military Selective Service Act, all males between the ages of 18 to 26 years old must register for Selective Service. The Solomon and Thurmond Amendments made Selective Service registration a prerequisite for federal student aid and federal employment eligibility. We would like to petition the President and Congress to reinstate the eligibility for federal student aid and federal employment for individuals not registered for Selective Service and were determined to be physically and/or mentally ineligible for military service. We also petition the President and Congress to exempt from Selective Service Registration those individuals determined to be permanently ineligible for military service due to permanent, long-term, or chronic illnesses and medical diagnoses.
