Military retirees and retired disabled veterans pay an extraordinary amount of tax on their retirement and retainer pays. This earned benefit should not be taxed by the federal government. Retirees already have to pay ever-increasing costs for Tricare Health Insurance and in Veterans Group Life Insurance premiums (both of which should also be free to our heroes) which take away a great deal of monetary compensation to our retired and disabled veterans. President Lincoln said during his second inauguration address, "Let us strive on to finish the work we are in, to bind up the nation’s wounds, to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan." In light of recent events, it is obvious that our nation’s heroes are not honored as President Lincoln desired.
