HHS Secretary Sebelius must clarify and widen the "religious exemption" to recent Obamacare insurance plan regulations to spare religious organizations and charities from paying for insurance covering contraception, sterilizations, and abortion inducing drugs.
Currently it could be interpreted to exempt only those organizations that employ or serve only those of their own religion, which would not exempt many religious organizations and charities operate more generously. The exemption should be broadened to these religious employers who employ and serve people of other faiths.
The religious exemption to this mandate as it is currently understood does not adequately respect the tenets of religious organizations and impels them to subsidize behavior contrary to their religious teachings.
