Exonerate O'Dane Maye a scholar and athlete with Schizoid Personality Disorder, incarcerated after suicide attempt.

Created by O.M. on June 22, 2012

O'Dane Maye is a bright scholar and track and field athlete. While studying Computer Science in his freshman year at Hampton University a change in his overall behavior was noticed and he was diagnosed with Schizoid Personality Disorder. Deep depression and solitude prompted O'Dane to withdraw from classes and break from studies. Shortly after he shot himself and two other men in a suicide attempt on the college campus. O'Dane had no prior run-ins with the law. He is currently serving a penal sentence with a tentative release date of 2021 in a Virginia State penitentiary with only GED and trade programs to stimulate his mind. This case speaks to our nation's gun laws and the lack of widespread education on mental disorders in a time when school bullying and the like is prevalent.
