Expand Current Food Manufacturing Labeling Laws to Include Cross-Contact of the Top 8 Allergens

Created by J.O. on August 31, 2016

Current labeling laws (FALCPA) require companies to label for the top 8 allergens: peanuts, treenuts, milk, egg, wheat, soy, fish & shellfish. Manufacturers are not required to label for cross contact; labels reading "may contain" or "processed in shared facility/line" are voluntary, and many companies believe this is proprietary information. For those with chronic food induced illness, we know current laws are not enough. Cross contact reactions are real consequences from eating packaged foods.

The Food Allergen Advisory Labeling Committee of NE Ohio is demanding companies include any cross contact with all top 8 allergens on package labeling, giving consumers power to make informed life-saving decisions and reducing incidents of epinephrine use.
