Reallocate Broadcast Television Channels 5 and 6 (76-88 MHz) for 60 channels of new FM Radio Broadcasting. The new spectrum allocation would greatly reduce interference on the existing AM and FM radio bands and allow more low power diverse stations.
The reallocated band would allow for contour protection for all stations. Possible spectrum usage could be : 76.1-78.9. LPFM (15 channels); 79.1-80.9 translators (10 channels); and 81.1-87.9 (35 channels) AM radio stations who like to move with full Class A FM power.
There are some existing FM radios sold at local electronic stores that currently will receive these frequencies.
Few television stations use these frequencies due to high noise levels, they would be allowed to continue to use these frequencies if that is their main channel.
