Expand the free government cell phone program.

The Lifeline Assistance program gives free government cell phones and 250 free minutes per month to more than 10 million low-income Americans. Unfortunately, conservative politicians and talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh want to destroy this outstanding program. We support the free government cell phone program because it (1) stimulates the economy by helping people get in touch with potential employers, (2) improves medical care by helping Americans reach medical providers, (3) improves quality of life by keeping families in contact, (4) keeps us safer by allowing people to make emergency phone calls. The Obama administration should protect and expand this program in order to achieve economic fairness and social justice for 60 million households below the median income.
