With all the current interest in the Constitution and what the Founding Fathers intended, we need to pay attention to their intentions for the House of Representatives.
As the population of the US grows, so should our House. The current average district is somewhere around 700,000 constituents. James Madison believed that a 1,000-member House of Representatives, with about 300,000 constituents per representative, would seem reasonable.
Better representation ratios would mean more accurate representation of the population, resulting in a healthier democracy. Expanding the House would also help bridge the divide between representatives and constituents and make every citizen's voice heard more.
