We the people ask the federal government to Call on Congress to act on an issue:

Expand the House of Representatives to meet the needs of our country

Created by B.R. on October 12, 2016

When the US was founded, our government decided that it was important to establish a wing of government responsible for representing the people - the House of Representatives. The first census reflects the population at the time was 3,900,000. There were 69 representatives in congress at the time of the first official census, which means there was a representative for every 56,500 citizens. We currently have a representative for every 735,000 citizens: very different from our founding and the 96,000 per citizen in 1911 when 435 was determined as the future max membership in the House of Representative. It is time to get back to local governance in DC. It is time to cap population at 300,000 per representative so that We the People Govern ourselves as intended.
