Expand the Legal Definition of Assault Weapons

In the wake of the Sandy Hook shootings, gun control has become a major issue in our country. I support common sense gun laws. However, there is an important issue that nobody seems to consider; how the law defines assault weapons. According to the Coalition for Gun Control in Canada, after banning a particular gun, gun manufacturers will make slight cosmetic changes to its guns, and re-market them as sporting guns. Guncite.com argues that there is no material difference between military- and non-military-type assault weapons. As part of the new push on gun control, I would urge Vice President Biden and his task force to consult with the military and law enforcement and expand the definition of assault weapon when making its recommendations regarding new gun control laws.
