Thousands of Afghan and Iraqi interpreters risked their lives for US forces in Afghanistan & Iraq. They risked their lives--some pulled injured US service members out of harm's way--or were injured or killed because of their proximity to combat or because they are targeted by insurgents when they visit family or friends. Few have a safe home to return when the US leaves.
The US State Department SIV program (http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3738.html) limits the number of visas to 50 per year. The authority for Iraqi interpreters expires on Dec 31, 2013 and for Afghan interpreters, on Sep 30, 2014. There is a huge backlog in approving these visas--this petition would keep faith with those who seek a better life for those who risked all for our Afghan & Iraqi war vets.
