The Pay As You Earn student loan repayment plan was recently introduced and is a very important tool for people struggling with student loan payments. These payments can be so high that they may delay or prevent people from marrying, buying homes, or having children and can ruin their chances at a full and productive life. In order to be eligible for Pay as You Earn you must have been a "new borrower" as of Oct. 1, 2007, meaning that if you have any loans older than that you cannot take advantage of this great program. This petition asks the Obama administration to make the program more fair by opening it to all borrowers who are struggling with student loan payments, not just newer borrowers.
