The catalyst for our founding fathers drive from colonial independence was the principle of 'no taxation without representation.' Back in seventeen-eighty-three, the right to vote was limited to land-holding males, and over the past two-and-a-half centuries, the right has been steadily expanded. I am of the opinion that in could, and should, be expanded even further. I think that all minors who are earning an income, and therefore paying taxes, should be able to vote in federal elections.
The main reason that I see in the way of allowing minors to submit their own votes is that they are not independent enough to develop their own political opinions. However, I believe that a vast majority of teens who are working for a living are as independent as adults, and deserve their right to vote.
