Social Security and other social safety nets should be expanded, cost-of-living calculations should be changed to keep pace with rising costs of things seniors need, and the payroll tax cap should be scraped to strengthen the program over the long term. One-third of seniors rely on Social Security for their entire income. More than half of all seniors rely on Social Security for significantly more than half their income. Cutting Social Security will serve no purpose but to significantly hurt seniors who have paid into the system since they received their first pay check.
