Explain to the America people that medicare is a program by us, for us, and if we wish to keep it, we must fund it.

We set aside 12.4% (split between employer and employee) of our income for retirement via the very successful SS program, yet we only set aside 2.9% for health care in our golden years via medicare. It has been estimated that the average paid into medicare is 150k but the average taken out is 300k. It seems obvious that our medicare tax has not kept up with the cost of health care. I think we can save medicare by simply doubling the tax over 20 years. That is an extra .0725% for employee and employer, per year for 20 years. If you earn 20k that is 14.50 each side per year for 20 years. If you earn 50k it is 36.25 per year, on each side. 100k is 72.50 on each side, and so on. If we wish to preserve medicare and the security it brings to seniors, then WE must be willing to fund OUR program.
