The request of this petition is very specific. The Obama White House recently responded to an array of petitions requesting that marijuana be legalized and regulated like alcohol is. The response was not very satisfying because many of the reasons given could be said just as well of alcohol. But alcohol is legal. What we deserve now is an explanation: just how is alcohol different from marijuana? Why is one legal and the other not? For every reason the administration gave for continuing to persecute marijuana smokers, either the same reason could be said of alcohol, or a comparable one could be given. At least, that's the claim the administration owes it to us to refute. Convince us you're being consistent, and that you're no beholden to the well-endowed alcohol industry lobbyists.
