As reported by a recent Reuters investigation, the pentagon is unable to account for a staggering $8.5 trillion since 1996 and has also never passed an audit as federally mandated. With the ever-growing national debt well over $18 trillion and blatant wasteful spending, I am struggling to understand why the American public is still funding these corrupt programs and why our hard earned dollars are so carelessly wasted.
One of the most recent cases was a report that just surfaced revealing the pentagon paid $43 million to build a gas station in Afghanistan that should supposedly cost only $300,000. That is roughly 143x the actual cost. Where did that money go?
Ultimately, why are we still paying taxes into a system that cannot safeguard or account for our money?
