In response to the decision of the USPTO to end the Redskins trademark I am asking the Obama administration to go a step further and explain the legal basis for allowing such a team to exist. I am sure that if an owner wanted to name his team the NY N*ggers this would be blocked by U.S. law. I want the white house to explain that application of the law and why the same rules wouldn't apply to the term Redskin.
Mr. President, Redskin is offensive to me as as a white person. It's offensive to me because it tells me that my country willfully turns a blind eye to the hate rooted in that term and allows it to permeate everyday society. It allows my young daughter to hear the term in everyday life and think it's ok. Take accountability and end it, please.
