On December 31st, 2011, President Obama signed the NDAA 2012 despite "serious reservations", stating that "my administration will not authorize the indefinite military detention without trial of American citizens" (section 1021) because he believed "that doing so would break with our most important traditions and values as a nation".
However, when Section 1021(b)(2) was ruled Unconstitutional by District Judge Katherine Forrest in mid 2012, the Obama Administration stepped in almost immediately with an appeal.
Understandably, I'm confused Mr. President:
Why would you on one hand say you're against indefinite detention of US citizens without trial, and then on the other hand fight for your right to keep it?
