The Obama administration has posted a response to the petitions calling for marijuana legalization. In it's response it cited the following: "marijuana use is associated with addiction, respiratory disease, and cognitive impairment." as it's reasons for keeping marijuana illegal. Since addiction, health issues and cognitive impairment seems to be key in deciding the legality of a substance, then we would like an explanation as to why alcohol and cigarettes have been kept legal when they both have high rates of addiction and detrimental health effects. If there is a study showing alcohol or cigarettes to be less detrimental than marijuana, please share it with the American people. Otherwise we continue to ask that marijuana be legalized in the same manner as alcohol and cigarettes.
