explain why if cigarettes and alcohol cause so may health issues and crime why are they legal and other drugs are not.

Created by J.Z. on September 09, 2014

Statistically cigarettes and alcohol cause more health issues than all other "illegal" drugs combined. Why is it even legal for them to be sold? If they are going to remain to be legal why are we keeping other drugs, especially marijuana which is statistically safer than both, illegal? Also in the case of alcohol, it causes more crime than all other drugs.

I am not asking for the law to be changed, though I think it should be, I am asking for a real explanation for why the law is the way it is. To me and I am sure many others this simply does not make sense.
