Due to the current US immigration system, green card applications often take years to process. Thousands of children of those green card applicants age out every year as they lose eligibility for green cards once they reach the age of 21. This happens even though their parents have applied for their green cards years before. In 2001, Congress passed the Child Status Protection Act, which stops this injustice, and the US 9th District ruled last year to uphold the law for children of green card applicants. Instead of implementing the over 10 year old law, the Administration has chosen to appeal the ruling. Isn't it time for the President and Congress to stop punishing the children of legal immigrants to this country?
