The upcoming centenary of World War One also marks the 100 years of aberration in the much revered democracy of the United States of America particularly in fostering equality. It is a blatant injustice to the noble, brave, and dedicated service of Filipinos in the United States military during WWI who fought side by side with Americans, Europeans, and Africans but were discriminated thus depriving them of their opportunity to become US citizens. On the contrary, their European and African counterparts were given the privilege to a US citizenship. America takes pride as a beacon of justice and equality but this part of history says otherwise, it is a betrayal of those Filipino soldiers who put their lives on the line for peace and freedom to reign. Rectification is therefore in order.
