If an agreement that includes the restoration of federal unemployment benefits isn't reached, extended unemployment benefits (EUC) will expire on Dec 29, 2012. Without legislation that would provide federal extended unemployment benefits for 2013, there will be no unemployment compensation beyond the 26 week maximum state unemployment benefits next year. More than 2 million Americans stand to lose their jobless benefits unless Congress reauthorizes EUC before the end of the year.
In Connecticut alone, the unemployment rate as of Oct '12 in the state is 9.0% and the average in the U.S. is 7.9% (Data from http://www1.ctdol.state.ct.us/lmi/unemprateCTUS.asp)
These benefits are the lifeline of many families. Allowing them to expire would detrimental. Legislation MUST be passed!
