Extend the Federal Income Tax Credit for Plug-in Electric Drive Vehicles

Created by A.S. on April 21, 2016

The federal income tax credit is a vital ingredient in encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles. Currently, after 200,000 vehicles are sold in the US by a manufacturer, the tax credit begins to expire. We request this number be changed to 500,000. It is in the national interest to encourage the rapid adoption of electric vehicles over internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles because:
1. Electric drive produces zero emissions which will help improve air quality and reduce global warming
2. Our dependence on foreign oil will be further reduced
Other countries are considering the outright ban of new internal combustion engine cars by 2025. We can at least increase our support for electric vehicles.
