Extend Memorial Day to include first responders, fire fighters, police officers and search and rescue.

Created by G.A. on May 26, 2014

Have the federal government officially extend the Memorial Day holiday to include first responders, fire fighters, police officers and search and rescue to honor those who have died in the line of duty and have served our communities every day in a selfless way. These additional heroes rush into a situation where many would flee.

Over the years it's apparent that their service is just as valuable as military officers in upholding our American way of life and in fact, sometimes the first to respond to threats like 9/11.

It saddens me to see our local Memorial Day parade with the firefighters and police officers at the end of the parade as people are packing up to go home and it implies that their service is less valuable.

We should change that with an official amendment to include them.
