Like Peace Corps volunteers and AmeriCorps VISTA members, AmeriCorps State and National members should be eligible for Noncompetitive hiring status after a year or more of service.
Like other Corps members AmeriCorps State and National volunteers work hard and provide an invaluable service to our country and its people. A provision that allowed for noncompetitive eligibility status for these service men and women was originally meant to be included in the Kennedy Serve America Act but was excluded to expedite the passage process.
It's time all of our nations volunteers are recognized with the full benefits provided to other volunteer programs.
