extend public service loan forgiveness (PSLF) of the direct loans programs to state contractors

Created by C.L. on January 22, 2012

Extend public service loan forgiveness (PSLF) of the direct loans program to state contractors who would otherwise be eligible were they regular government employees rather than contractors.

State jobs across the nation are being privatized, and often the same employess are shifted from state payroll to a private contractor, while still doing the same job they were doing while employed directly by the state. These are still social work/public service jobs, and are not paid any better than actual state employees.. often times even paid less.

Remove the exemption from state contractors, allowing them to continue doing their good work for the public while still counting their student loan payments toward the ten-year forgiveness program.
