Extend the right to not participate in abortion coverage to all organizations, not just religious ones.

Created by D.M. on April 22, 2012

President Obama's statement about allowing Catholic organizations to be exempt from paying for contraception misses a key point about the issue: the religious freedom of non-religious organizations.

Individuals that are a part of organizations that do not fall into this category (insurance companies, for example), would be required to support abortion, a practice that many believe to be wrong and incompatible with their religious convictions.

Confining religious freedom to "religious organizations" denies that freedom to organizations that may be "non-religious" but are still made up of individuals with their own personal convictions and religious beliefs.

Women's health care is important, but there should be religious freedom to support it in ways consistent with conscience.
