Prior to 1981, survivor benefits were paid to qualified dependent children, after the death of a parent, through their college years. Post 1981 the benefits were retracted and are now only paid until the age of 18, or high school graduation, due to people abusing their benefits by enrolling but not attending or passing their college courses.
I am petitioning to reinstate the extension of benefits to the age of 21 so long as the dependent child is enrolled in, attending and passing their courses at an accredited college or other approved higher education establishment.
Education is the future of our country. Let's not fall further behind the rest of the world. Help our children achieve their career goals.
