Extend Special Immigrant Visa Programs for Afghanistan and Iraq

The Special Immigrant Visa Program for Afghanistan is set to expire on Dec. 31, 2014 and has already expired in Iraq. Those who have served with U.S. forces such as translators are presently in danger from retaliation from the Taliban. Since legislation was enacted to grant visas to such people, not enough were actually issued. We owe it those who put their own lives on the line to create a better country for their people and to save the lives of countless U.S. soldiers to bring them to the United States. We have not done enough. On May 7, 2014 H.R. 4594 Afghan Allies Protection Extension Act was assigned to a congressional committee and nothing has been done since then. I ask our members of Congress to reach across the aisle and pass this bipartisan piece of legislation.
